Indie 184: Wild at Heart

Opening reception: Thursday, February 7, 2013, 6pm-9pm

“WILD AT HEART” FEATURING ARTIST INDIE 184 OPENS AT MATHGOTH GALLERY PARIS, FRANCE

MathGoth Gallery presents “Wild at Heart” the first solo exhibition in Paris of New York artist Indie 184.
Being young at heart and seizing the moment, isn’t that what life is all about? In life, we are often motivated through epiphanies, which reawaken our senses to follow our dreams and live to our full potential.  Indie’s passion for life transcends through her paintings, in “WILD AT HEART” she exposes her true vivid energy bursting with messages layered with photographic female icons, symbols and graffiti. “WILD AT HEART” celebrates being fun and fearless while focusing on what really matters in life - being true to our own identity.
Born in Puerto Rico to Dominican parents, Indie grew up in the boroughs of New York City spending most of her years in the uptown Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights. Determined to express herself to the world through art, she quit business college to teach herself how to sew, paint and produce graphic design. She has been active in the graffiti culture for over a decade. Influenced by all things colorful, happy and feminine. She is known for her graffiti style  infused with playful bold colors bursting with hearts, stars and bubbles.
Since her last exhibition in Paris in 2010 “Burning Hearts” in collaboration with her partner, the legendary Cope 2, for "WILD AT HEART" Indie will offer over a dozen new paintings using black and white photographs of women,  stencil,  marker and brushes with the integration of collages.

"My creative process usually starts by pouring out conflicting ideas or emotions using words, images and color. When I create a painting, it’s like a page of my personal diary – all the pieces are worlds of personal declarations. Constant use of word play, found scraps of paper, stencil, graffiti, graphics and photographs mixed with vivid colors. Layering and textures of paint and paper resonates the spirit and soul of the work. I use iconic female imagery provoking mood and expression embellished with dripping paint juxtaposed with words. The use of color is significantly important reflecting the energy of the painting. The composed painting reflects power, motivation and with an undeniable twist of feminism in my paintings." - Indie 184

Please join us for the opening reception, Thursday February 7, 2013 from 6pm to 9pm at Galerie MathGoth  32, rue Rodier - 75009 Paris.  "WILD AT HEART" opens through February 21, 2013.
